Ian Beckett sitting at the Intertype

From the Beginning

Hot lead typesetting is an art practiced by few. Otto Arndt, a journey level ITU typesetter, instructed Ian Beckett on the mechanics, art, and history of typesetting for several years before Ian purchased his Intertype Model G in 1998.

Ian Beckett worked with Baldwin Foster Printers until 2012, when he moved his machinery to Gann Brothers Printing.

Beckett Lead today

Ian is passionate about preserving the craft of lead typesetting. If you are interested in seeing how lead type is made, there are tours available on most Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:00 pm. Please contact Ian if you would like to make an appointment or place an order.
